Product Description
Moisture Proof Layer Mastic Vapor Barrier Material For Cold Insulated Piping
Mastic is a moisture-proof and vapor barrier material made from bitumen as the base material, added with mineral fillers and flame retardants. This waterproof flame retardant mastic possesses characteristics such as air tightness, waterproofing, frost resistance, corrosion resistance, resistance to aging and cracking, and flame retardancy after cold construction at room temperature.
Moisture-proof mastic plays a crucial role in pipeline insulation projects, especially in cryogenic pipeline insulation for LNG and other applications where it demonstrates unique advantages.
Material Properties Analysis
Basic Composition and Structure
Mastic is a composite material mainly composed of asphalt or polymer resin as the base material, with added mineral fillers, flame retardants, plasticizers, and thickeners. Cold insulation mastic is typically a black paste with higher density and lower operating temperature range.
Physical Properties
  • Density: 1.5-1.7 g/cm³ (cold insulation type)
  • Application Thickness: 3-6 mm
  • Drying Time: 48-60 hours (finger-drying ~1 hour)
  • Water Absorption: ≤1.0% (cold insulation type)
  • Environmental Adaptability: -40℃ to +60℃
Chemical Properties
  • Flame Retardancy: B2 grade, oxygen index >30%
  • Temperature Range: -40℃ to 90℃ (special formulas to -170℃)
  • Adhesion Strength: 1.5-2.5 kg/cm² at 20℃
  • Corrosion Resistance: High-performance corrosion inhibitors

Application and Construction Techniques
Application Methods
Mastic is used as a moisture barrier in pipeline insulation projects, typically combined with insulation materials like foam glass, polyurethane, and rigid microporous calcium silicate.
Construction Process
  • Substrate treatment: Clean surface, remove dust/oil, ensure ≤8% moisture content
  • Material Configuration: Heat to 180-190℃ for hot application
  • Layered Coating: First layer (1-3mm), then reinforcing material, second layer (2-3mm)
  • Special Area Treatment: Use scraper for complex areas like valves/flanges
Application rate: 6-8 kg/m² (including losses). Ensure good ventilation during construction and proper storage of unused material.
Performance Comparison with Other Materials
Material Air Tightness Low Temp Resistance Lifespan
Mastic Excellent (≤1% absorption) -40℃ (special -170℃) 25 years
Aluminum Foil/PAP Good -20℃ 10-15 years
Polyurethane Membrane Excellent -20℃ (special -180℃) 10-15 years
Selection Recommendations
For LNG/cryogenic pipelines (-162℃): Mastic is preferred due to its ultra-low temperature capability and excellent airtightness.
For coastal high-corrosion environments: Mastic with high-performance corrosion inhibitors is recommended.
